Summertime! Which in Virginia can start in April! lol. We have 4 seasons here, hot and hotter, cold and colder.! So we started summer early here! What about you? Warm there? If not it soon will be!
Summertime; that wonderful, warm season that calls to us to spend every possible moment outdoors! Bike riding, hiking, beach time, going to the lake, or just sitting outside on the patio relaxing and and listening to the summer sounds!
Sometimes summer comes with more over processed and poor quality fat foods.. Does munching on cheese puffs and chips while at the beach, slapping dogs on the grill for a BBQ, or grabbing a ready-made potato salad from the deli sound like a familiar familiar?
If so you are not alone. So I am giving you a few ways that are easy to help you out! A delicious way to indulge in summer’s plentitude without overwhelming the body, is by enjoying ample fruits and vegetables with your outdoor meals. Including more plants based foods is a great way to fuel the body and are the number one provider of vitamins. Your body needs vitamins in order to function properly. So the best way to nourish your body is by eating your fruits and veggies. (See mom was right when she said eat your veggies) 😀
Here’s some easy tip to get your started:
Plan ahead and cut up fruits and veggies at the beginning of the week and store them in the refrigerator in containers so you can have them ready during the day or before you head out to your favorite summer activity.
Combine summer fruits like berries for a fruit salad to take with you to gatherings or to have as an easy summertime desert that is popular with everyone!
Make a large salad. Making a large salad and add fruits like berries along with your leafy green and other veggies is a great side to take to any picnic or to have on hand after a busy day at work. Berry vinaigrettes go well with this type of salad as well.
These are just a few ways you can incorporate less processed food in your summertime routine. Strive for more colors of the rainbow, not only is it visually appealing to people, but you get more variation of phytonutrients as well.
Here’s to your Health!
