3 Easy Ways to bring more Mindfulness Into your Busy Day

April 15, 2018 Kelli Hughart

Are you so busy and so rushed you rarely feel like you have time to sneeze much less anything else?

Well incorporating more mindfulness is just what the herbalist ordered lol. Mindfulness is all about training yourself to pay attention in a special way to things happening around you.

It is about learning to focus on the present moment, letting the past be, and trying not to think about what may be coming up in the future. Not being in judgement of any thoughts in that moment.

So much time is spent thinking about things that happened in the past, and worrying about what might happen in the future, that we forget the present moment is all we really have.

Mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety and bring in more awareness.  Its an awesome way of helping us to experience life as is happens. Mindfulness does not happen automatically.

It is an ongoing training process of developing new thought patterns, but the benefits to your mental and physical health will be worth it.

Here are two easy ways to bring more mindfulness in.  I hope you like the suggestions!

Eye Spy with a Mindful Eye:  Pick out 5 things you will look for during the day. That may be a bird flying over head.  An airplane. A red 4-door car.  A green pick up truck.  A red flower.   Choose something simple! As you go about your day look for these items.

Mindful Ear Hear: Similar to the above exercise you want to pick out a few sounds.  Don’t pick stressful sounds like a phone going off but more relaxing sounds.  Sound of leaves rustling, the sounds of someone laughing, the sound of a bird chirping.

Mindful Smelling: Go into your kitchen, get your tea  pot going and grab a cub of herbal tea (grab the free resource below if you need herbal tea suggestions)

Just notice the steam coming from the cup and start to notice the smell.  What do you smell? Sweet? Spicy?  Earthy?  Sitting with a cup of tea is a great way to take time every day to be more mindful, relaxed and to nourish your body during stress.
